A unique and awe-inspiring experience awaits when you visit The Vizcaya Museum. This lush estate is a treasure trove of art, history, and design, and is a must-see for things to do in Miami.
The Vizcaya estate is one of the grandest museums in Miami, Fla. and the result of a millionaire’s dream and an interior decorator’s vision. The estate was completed in 1922 for James Deering, who wanted a grand home where he could spend winters and improve his health. The estate’s architecture and design was inspired by ancient Italian villas, South Florida mythology, and 1900s American building techniques.
The “Main House” itself has 34 rooms and is surrounded by 10 acres of beautiful gardens. The estate’s collections include early 20th century art, European antiquities, and endangered plants native to Miami.
Programs and events at Vizcaya let you explore the museum’s art, architecture, landscape, and plant life. For instance, “Gardens by Moonlight” lets you see the estate’s luxurious grounds by night and includes a rotating roster of art and entertainment. “Wild Vizcaya” turns you into an explorer as you join a team of scientists to find all of the different plant and animal species on the property.
The facility can be rented for daytime or evening ceremonies, celebrations, or special events. A permit is offered for a fee if you wish to do professional photo-shoots on the grounds.
